Marketing On-Page SEO

Activity on your Website Delivers Better Rankings

It’s a fact! Activity on your website improves your rankings purely because that is exactly what Google wants to see!

Activity interests people, and search engine crawlers to look and see what is going on. It attracts attention, and Google does notice people’s interest in a specific page and gives your website better rankings, even if you do not have one single link created.

I am a big fan of Income School (Even though I do not fully agree on them neglecting the shear importance of link building).

In one of their episodes, they were discussing a website that they created earlier, that did not get any traffic (Probably due to the Google sandbox effect).

Guess what? Right after that video was premiered, this specific website they were discussing shot up in rankings, as I was personally tracking this phenomenon via SEMRush and Ahrefs). That was quite absurd yet interesting to see!

A couple of episodes later, they did confirm seeing the boost in rankings right after talking about that underperforming website, despite the fact that they did not create a single link. (I did confirm that via AHREFS)

Take this example.  You walk past a building site near your home on the way to and from work.  Because it is in your local niche people like to see what is going on and the activity gains your attention.  In reality we are all sticky noses.

All growth depends on activity.  There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work.

Quote from Calvin Coolidge

The consistent tinkering with your website to improve its value is a godsend to your activity.

Whether it be a new blog post, some change to your website view, an additional feature, a re-write to an article, additional keywords used all adds to activity and people and search engine notice.

Make your website a valuable source of information to which people return time and time again, build your brand to become the authority that people and search engines trust.

Here’s my suggested website activity to add people’s trust in you and your business…

1  Update your theme and plugins

The technology that drives your website including SEO is continually improving and expanding.  It is inevitable that themes and plugins will have upgrades and additions that will make your website more secure, faster and user-friendly.

Take advantage of technology such as PHP upgrades to boost up your website and database speeds.

A prime example is the advent of the mobile responsive theme.  With mobile search now at 70% of all search and its rapid future growth, non-mobile responsive websites will be left behind.

Mobile responsive themes generally have fewer distractions and clutter.

A need for speed.  Website should load in 2-3 seconds.

3.  Your pages provide the best current information.

Your content and the information it reveals are some of the most important parts of your website that promotes your business niche.

Regular correction and additions add to the value of your pages so they become a valuable reference to your customers and visitors. It is vital to update any content that tends to expire quickly. My preference is always to stick to evergreen content that tends to always be future-proof.

If you are running an Amazon affiliate website, you have to understand that daily price changes can be extremely time consuming.  My suggestion is leave all or most pricing off your website.  All it does is telegraph your pricing to your competitors and that allows them to steal your business.

Changing and adding images and videos is a great way to create activity.

4.  Write regular articles (blog post) of valuable content to inform.

I cannot emphasize enough that all businesses should add a new SEO and SEM blog post regularly,  minimum monthly but weekly is best.

One of the great benefits is that you generate additional keywords that are indexed to your website and that means you will show up more often in visitor searches.

In addition, every blog helps build your brand and authority that leads to trust.  Trust is what brings new customers and sales.

5.  Associate with well known brands.

Enjoy the free ride by piggybacking off well recognized brands.  Use these where you can. If possible in your

  • Domain Name
  • URL’s where possible
  • Create links both inbound and outbound.
  • Keywords
  • Text

Accossiate with well known and active brands

  • YouTube      rank No. 2
  • Facebook     rank No. 24
  • Yahoo          rank No. 36
  • Wikipedia    rank No. 15
  • WordPress  rank No. 9

6.  Marketing your website and article

In the industry its call search engine marketing (SEM). Promote and market through:

  1. Social media – Facebook, business pages, LinkedIn, Twitter (if you are so inclined) and there are many Social bookmarks.
  2. Local Directories – Yellow pages True local, Yelp, Where is and there are several others to choose from.
  3. Videos are a great way to gain extra marketing penetration.
  4. Pay-per-click I do not recommend them as it will soon cost you hundreds of dollars per month.
