SEO A/B Test Sample Size Calculator
SEO testing splits pages, not users. Calculate how much traffic and time you need to prove that a change (like a new title tag) actually caused a ranking boost.
Stop “Guessing” Your SEO Results
Did your traffic go up because you changed the title tag, or because it’s December?
Standard A/B testing tools (like Optimizely) don’t work for SEO because Googlebot needs to see a permanent change on a page. Therefore, SEO testing requires Split-Testing Groups of Pages.
This SEO Sample Size Calculator tells you if you have enough traffic volume to run a scientifically valid test, preventing you from wasting months on inconclusive experiments.
How SEO Split Testing Works
- 1. The Split: Take a category of pages (e.g., “Product Pages”). Randomly assign 50% to “Group A” (Control) and 50% to “Group B” (Variant).
- 2. The Change: Apply the SEO change (e.g., adding Schema) ONLY to Group B. Leave Group A untouched.
- 3. The Analysis: Compare the traffic trend of Group B against the forecast of Group A. If B beats the forecast, the change worked.
The “Noise” Problem
Organic traffic is noisy. Seasonality, Google Core Updates, and competitor moves all affect your traffic daily.
Because of this noise, you need High Volume to prove anything. If you only have 50 visits a day, you will never reach statistical significance unless the uplift is massive (like +100%).
