Stop Counting Characters. Start Counting Pixels.

For years, SEOs were taught that a Title Tag should be “60 characters or less.” This is technically wrong. Google doesn’t count characters; it counts pixels.

The letter “W” is 11 pixels wide. The letter “i” is only 3 pixels wide. A title with ten “W”s will get cut off much faster than a title with ten “i”s, even if the character count is the same. This Google Title & Meta Pixel Width Checker simulates exactly how Google renders text to ensure your message is never truncated.

The “Safe Zones” for SEO Tags

  • Desktop Title: 580px (Approx 55-60 chars). Going beyond 600px guarantees truncation.
  • Mobile Title: Mobile is more generous, often allowing up to 620px+. However, always optimize for Desktop first as a conservative baseline.
  • Meta Description: 920px (Approx 155-160 chars). Google often rewrites these, but a well-optimized description acts as a “mini-ad” to boost your CTR Impact.

How to Write High-CTR Titles

Once you fit the pixel limit, how do you get the click? Use our Title Rewrite CTR Estimator to test variations, but here are the basics:

1. Front-Load Keywords

Users scan the first 2-3 words. Put your primary topic (“SEO Tools”) at the very start.

2. Use Brackets

Adding [2025 Guide] or (Free Template) at the end of a title can increase CTR by up to 30%.
